The Process Safety Academy: Are your people prepared to avoid catastrophe?

Process safety has made great strides in recent years. Advanced systems and sophisticated technology have helped assure that processes run smoothly, keeping people, equipment, and the environment safe. But without individuals with the right skills and capabilities, all the gains can quickly come to naught.

DEKRA Insight works with organizations across process industries to design and implement learning solutions that ensure that people managing safety systems know what to do, when to do it, and how to get it done—safely. This is especially critical in industries working with flammable liquids, gases, and dust, where combustible material is susceptible to flash fire, runaway reaction, and explosion risks. People need to know what to watch out for and how to manage hazards before they become catastrophes.

With decades of industry-specific experience, our experts have designed training solutions that can be customized to meet the unique needs of your situation, regardless of the environment or workgroup skill. Our Process Safety Academy courses are designed to teach the skills and knowledge needed to prevent, mitigate, and control unwanted chemical reactions, explosions, fires, and other hazardous incidents during process manufacturing operations. Courses focus on common hazards in the agrochemical, chemical, food processing, metals, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, plastics, rubber, and related industries.

Whether your people are new to process safety, need a refresher, or want to enhance their skills with the latest insight and best practices, we work with you to provide understanding through the effective transfer of knowledge and concrete actions that get results.

Current course offering include:

  • NFPA 652 – Standard on Fundamentals of Combustible Dust – This 1-day course provides the knowledge you need to address mandatory requirements for the management of the fire, flash fire, and explosion hazards posed by combustible dusts.
  • Chemical Hazard Assessment and the Prevention of Runaway Reactions – This course covers how to identify the thermal and chemical reactivity hazards associated with a chemical process based on the principles of scale-up and development.
  • Electrostatic Hazards: Assessment and Control of Ignition Risks – This course demonstrates how and where electrostatic charge is generated, how to analyze static problems, and how to apply effective solutions.
  • Flash Fire and Explosion Hazards during Handling of Flammable Liquids and Gases – Designed for engineers and personnel working with chemical processes, this course overviews flammability properties, testing methods, and practical explosion prevention techniques.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Equipment Selection for Hazardous Areas – This course covers how to identify locations within a process plant where ignitable atmospheres exist and the necessary actions to take to minimize the risks they pose.
  • Combustible Dust Hazards: Prevention and Protection – This course demonstrates the techniques available for both preventing dust explosions and protecting people and facilities from their effects.

The Process Safety Academy courses help you achieve your process safety objectives and set your people up to effectively implement knowledge gained for sustainable success. Courses are open and include in-company training, with e-learning and webinar options.
